Editorial policy
This page explains what we publish, how we keep it accurate and how you can tell us when something is wrong.
What we publish
Convert In Place has two kinds of pages. Tool pages contain a working converter together with an explanation of the formats involved, what to watch for and how to get a better result. Guides answer practical questions that sit behind the tools, such as which format to choose or how to meet a file size limit.
How we keep content accurate
- We state facts that can be checked, and we do not invent figures. Where a number appears, it comes from arithmetic you can repeat, such as the size of a page at a given resolution.
- When behavior can differ between versions of an operating system or app, we say so and describe menu names the way they commonly appear.
- When we are not sure, we say less rather than guess.
- We test the converters with sample files before we publish changes, and we describe their limits openly, for example that only the first page of a multi-page TIFF is converted.
Updates and corrections
Pages show the month they were last reviewed. We review them when a format, a browser or a system behavior changes in a way that affects what we say. If you find an error, write to us through the contact page with the page and the sentence in question, and we will correct it.
Independence
Convert In Place is not affiliated with Apple, Google, Microsoft, Adobe or any maker of the formats and tools we mention. Format and company names are used only to describe compatibility. We do not accept payment to recommend a product or to change what a page says.
