Why convert PDF to PNG
PNG keeps text and line art crisp, which makes it the better choice than JPG for pages with small text, charts or diagrams.
Typical situations
- Extracting a page with charts, diagrams or small text
- Making crisp page images for a presentation
- Saving a page where JPG compression would blur the lettering
What to watch for
PNG pages are larger than JPG pages, and big documents at high resolution can take a while and use a lot of memory. Pages are drawn on a white background. The text in the PNG is an image and cannot be selected.
Tips for better results
- On US Letter pages, Standard gives 918 by 1188 pixels, High gives 1224 by 1584, Maximum gives 1836 by 2376 and Print quality (300 dpi) gives 2550 by 3300.
- PNG pages can be several times larger than JPG pages, so convert only the pages you need.
- Very long PDFs use a lot of memory at Maximum, so try High first.

Frequently asked questions
Why is PNG better than JPG for PDF pages with text?
PNG does not use lossy compression, so edges of letters stay sharp. JPG can add faint blur around text at lower quality settings.
How do I convert a PDF to PNG with a transparent background?
This tool draws pages on a white background, so the result has no transparency. PNG is still the better choice than JPG for sharp text and diagrams.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using your own device, so the files are not sent to Convert In Place or anyone else. See how it works for a way to check this yourself.
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
You can use it as often as you like. One batch holds up to 200 files, and each file can be up to 200 MB. Large files and long batches depend on the memory of your device, and phones handle less than computers.
