How to use this converter
- Add your pictures. You can mix JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, TIFF, BMP, GIF and SVG.
- In Options choose how to resize: by percentage, by width, by height, to fit inside a box or to an exact size, then type the numbers.
- Press Resize, then download each resized picture or take all of them in one ZIP.
Why resize an image
Photos from phones and cameras are far larger than most forms, websites and documents need. Resizing to the pixel size a form asks for, or to a smaller percentage, makes the file lighter and the picture easier to place, without opening an image editor.
Typical situations
- Making a photo match the pixel size an application form or portal asks for
- Shrinking large pictures before adding them to a document, presentation or website
- Preparing a profile picture or thumbnail at a fixed size
What to watch for
Making a picture smaller keeps it sharp, but making it larger cannot add detail that was never there, so enlarged images look soft. Fit inside keeps the proportions, while Exact size stretches the picture if the new shape differs from the original. HEIC and AVIF photos are saved as JPG and BMP, GIF and TIFF images as PNG unless you pick another format. Animated GIFs keep only the first frame.
Tips for better results
- Resize first and compress second: use the Maximum file size option to also keep the result under a limit such as 200 KB.
- Enter only a width to keep the proportions, or use Fit inside when a form gives a maximum width and a maximum height.
- Start from the largest original you have, because resizing down is clean and resizing up is not.

Frequently asked questions
How do I resize an image to an exact size in pixels?
Choose Exact width and height in the options, type the two numbers and add your picture. To keep the proportions, choose Fit inside or enter only a width or only a height, and the other side follows automatically.
Can I resize images online for free without signing up?
Yes. Resizing runs online in your browser, it is free, and there is no account or signup. Your pictures are not uploaded.
How do I resize an image without losing quality?
Making a picture smaller loses no visible quality at a high quality setting, because the tool shrinks it in steps. Making it larger cannot add detail, so the result looks soft.
Can I resize many images at once?
Yes. Add all the pictures together and they are resized one after another with the same settings. Download them one by one or as a ZIP.
How do I resize an image to a file size, such as 100 KB?
Choose a size in pixels or a percentage, then pick Under 100 KB in Maximum file size. The tool lowers the quality, and the size only if needed, until the file fits.
Does resizing keep the transparent background of a PNG?
Yes, when the result is PNG or WebP. If you choose JPG, transparent areas are filled with the background color from the options, because JPG cannot store transparency.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using your own device, so the files are not sent to Convert In Place or anyone else. See how it works for a way to check this yourself.
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
You can use it as often as you like. One batch holds up to 200 files, and each file can be up to 200 MB. Large files and long batches depend on the memory of your device, and phones handle less than computers.
