How to use this converter
- Add the pictures you want to turn. You can mix formats such as JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC.
- In Options pick the rotation (90 clockwise, 180 or 90 counterclockwise) and, if needed, a horizontal or vertical flip.
- Press Rotate, then download each corrected picture or all of them in one ZIP.
Why rotate or flip an image
Pictures from scanners and some cameras or apps come out sideways or upside down, and a few programs ignore the orientation stored in the file. Rotating the pixels themselves gives you a picture that looks right everywhere.
Typical situations
- Fixing a scan or photo that came out sideways
- Turning a picture upright before adding it to a document or form
- Making a mirrored copy of a logo or photo
What to watch for
The picture is rotated by turning the pixels and then saved again, so JPG results are compressed once more. Use a high quality setting if you want to keep every detail. HEIC and AVIF photos are saved as JPG and BMP, GIF and TIFF images as PNG. Flipping creates a mirror image, so text in the picture will read backwards.
Tips for better results
- If one picture needs a different turn than the rest, convert it on its own with another setting.
- To flip a picture without turning it, choose a rotation of 180 degrees together with the opposite flip.
- Keep the original file, because every JPG save is lossy.

Frequently asked questions
Which way does the rotation turn the picture?
90 degrees clockwise turns the top of the picture to the right, 180 degrees turns it upside down, and 90 degrees counterclockwise (shown as 270 clockwise) turns the top to the left.
Can I rotate a photo online without signing up?
Yes. The tool is free, runs online in your browser and needs no account or signup.
How do I rotate several images at once?
Add them together. They all get the same rotation and flip, and you can download them as one ZIP.
Can I rotate by a custom angle like 15 degrees?
No. This tool turns pictures in steps of 90 degrees and flips them, which is lossless for the layout and never leaves empty corners.
Does rotating a JPG reduce quality?
The picture is saved again, so a JPG is compressed once more. At a high quality setting the difference is rarely visible, and PNG results lose nothing.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using your own device, so the files are not sent to Convert In Place or anyone else. See how it works for a way to check this yourself.
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
You can use it as often as you like. One batch holds up to 200 files, and each file can be up to 200 MB. Large files and long batches depend on the memory of your device, and phones handle less than computers.
