Why rotate a PDF
Scanned PDFs often have pages that came out sideways or upside down. Rotating the pages once and saving the file fixes the document for everyone who opens it afterwards.
Typical situations
- Fixing a scanned document that was fed into the scanner sideways
- Turning a landscape table to read upright on screen
- Correcting a PDF received upside down
What to watch for
All pages are turned by the same amount, added to any rotation they already have. The pages are not redrawn, so text stays selectable and quality does not change. To turn only some pages, split the file first, rotate the part you need and merge the pieces again. PDFs protected with a password cannot be opened, and a file can have at most 500 pages.
Tips for better results
- If only some pages are wrong, split them out, rotate them and merge everything back.
- Preview the result in your PDF viewer before you send it.
- Keep the original file in case you want a different rotation later.

Frequently asked questions
Does rotating a PDF keep the text selectable?
Yes. The tool changes the rotation setting of each page instead of redrawing it, so text, links and image quality stay as they were.
Can I rotate a PDF online for free?
Yes. Rotating runs online in your browser, it is free, and there is no account, signup or watermark.
Can I rotate only one page of a PDF?
Not directly. Split the page out, rotate it and merge the pieces back in the right order with the other tools on this site.
Is the PDF uploaded to rotate it?
No. The change is made in your browser and the new file is created on your device.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using your own device, so the files are not sent to Convert In Place or anyone else. See how it works for a way to check this yourself.
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
You can use it as often as you like. One batch holds up to 200 files, and each file can be up to 200 MB. Large files and long batches depend on the memory of your device, and phones handle less than computers.
