Why convert SVG to PNG

SVG is a vector format, which means it can be drawn at any size, but many upload forms, office programs and apps only accept raster images. A PNG made at the right width works everywhere and keeps the transparent background of a logo.

Typical situations

What to watch for

The SVG is drawn by your browser, which does not run scripts inside an SVG picture and does not load outside files or images referenced by it. A font that is not embedded in the file may be replaced by another font. Pick a width large enough for how the PNG will be used, because a PNG cannot be enlarged cleanly later. Very large widths use a lot of memory.

Frequently asked questions

What width should I choose for the PNG?

Size written in the SVG uses the measure stored in the file itself. For slides and documents 1024 or 2048 pixels is usually enough, and for printing choose the largest width that your device can handle.

Does SVG to PNG keep the transparent background?

Yes. Transparent parts of the SVG stay transparent in the PNG.

Is it safe to convert an SVG file from the internet?

The file is drawn as a picture, so scripts inside it do not run and it cannot load outside resources. It is also not uploaded anywhere. Files that are not valid SVG or that contain unsafe XML definitions are rejected.

Can I convert many SVG files at once?

Yes. Add them together and download the PNG files one by one or as a ZIP.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser using your own device, so the files are not sent to Convert In Place or anyone else. See how it works for a way to check this yourself.

Is there a limit on file size or number of files?

You can use it as often as you like. One batch holds up to 200 files, and each file can be up to 200 MB. Large files and long batches depend on the memory of your device, and phones handle less than computers.
