Why convert TIFF to JPG
Scanners and print workflows often produce TIFF files, which are large and cannot be shown by most web browsers. JPG files are much easier to email, upload and preview.
Typical situations
- Emailing a scan that your scanner saved as TIFF
- Uploading a scanned document to a portal that wants JPG
- Making a quick preview copy of a large print file
What to watch for
Only the first page of a multi-page TIFF is converted. If you scanned several pages into one TIFF, you will get just the first. JPG is lossy, so choose a high quality setting for scans you want to keep readable.
Tips for better results
- A letter size page scanned at 300 dpi is 2550 by 3300 pixels, which is about 25 MB when stored uncompressed, so JPG saves a lot of space.
- Use quality 90 or above for scanned text so letters stay sharp.
- Only the first page of a multi-page TIFF is converted, so scan separate pages as separate files if you need each one.

Frequently asked questions
Can I convert every page of a multi-page TIFF?
Not with this tool. It converts the first page of each TIFF file. For a multi-page document, split the pages first or scan them as separate files.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using your own device, so the files are not sent to Convert In Place or anyone else. See how it works for a way to check this yourself.
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
You can use it as often as you like. One batch holds up to 200 files, and each file can be up to 200 MB. Large files and long batches depend on the memory of your device, and phones handle less than computers.
