Why turn TIFF scans into a PDF
Scanners and fax software often save pages as TIFF, but email systems, portals and colleagues expect a PDF. Putting the scans into a PDF gives you one file that opens everywhere, instead of a folder of TIFF files that many programs cannot show.
Typical situations
- Sending scanned letters, contracts or receipts as a single PDF
- Turning fax or scanner output into a file that opens on any device
- Meeting an upload limit by choosing a smaller file size for a stack of scans
What to watch for
Each TIFF becomes one page, in the order shown in the list. Only the first page of a multi-page TIFF is used, so scan or split multi-page files into single pages first. The pages are compressed as JPG inside the PDF, so choose the larger file size option when small print must stay sharp, or the smaller one when a form limits the size. You can mix TIFF with JPG, PNG and other pictures.
Tips for better results
- Choose Same as the image to keep the scan at its own page shape, or A4 or Letter to place it on a standard page.
- A scan at 300 dpi gives a sharp page, and Smaller file is enough for text that is only read on screen.
- If the TIFF has several pages, save each page as its own file before you add it.

Frequently asked questions
Can I put many TIFF scans into one PDF?
Yes. Add all the TIFF files, use Up and Down to arrange the pages and press Create PDF. Each file becomes one page.
Does TIFF to PDF keep a multi-page TIFF?
No. Only the first page of each TIFF file is used. Add the pages of a multi-page scan as separate files to get them all in the PDF.
Is the PDF text searchable?
No. The pages are pictures. If you need the words, run the scan through Image to text (OCR).
Can I convert TIFF to PDF on my phone?
Yes. Open this page in the phone browser, choose the files and press Create PDF. Large scans depend on the memory of the phone.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using your own device, so the files are not sent to Convert In Place or anyone else. See how it works for a way to check this yourself.
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
You can use it as often as you like. One batch holds up to 200 files, and each file can be up to 200 MB. Large files and long batches depend on the memory of your device, and phones handle less than computers.
